Puri: Thousands of devotees have thronged Sakhi Gopinath Temple in Sakhigopal in Puri offer their prayers to Goddess Radha as she transformed into a typical Odia woman on the occasion of Anla Nabami today.
The temple gate was opened at 12.30 pm for devotees. Usually the temple attracts devotees for its unique idol of Lord Krishna. Only on the rare occasion of Anla Nabami, devotees throng the shrine to get a glimpse of Goddess Radha’s feet, as Radha is dressed up in traditional costumes and adornments only once in a year on this occasion.
This year the Puri district administration has banned the VVIP pass system. Unlike previous years, devotes have been barred to not touch the feet of the Goddess this year.
It is believed that viewing Goddess Radha’s feet brings good luck and prosperity. Anla Nabami is observed on the ninth day of the waxing phase of moon in the holy month of Kartik.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order. Six CCTV cameras have been installed to keep a close vigil on criminal elements.
