Depression: Pre-cyclone watch for Odisha coast

Bhubaneswar:  The depression over east central Bay of Bengal is very likely to continue to move west-north westwards, concentrate into a deep depression during next 12 hours and cross south Odisha – north Andhra Pradesh coasts between Kalingapatnam and Puri close to Gopalpur around today midnight with wind speed of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph.

“The depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed about 23 kmph in past six hours and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 20th September, 2018 near latitude 17.50N and longitude 87.50E over westcentral & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal, about 360 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam (Coastal Andhra Pradesh) and about 330 km east- southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha),” said a weather bulletin issued Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Under its pressure squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely along and off West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh Coasts during next 06 hours, it said.

It will gradually increase becoming 55-65 kmph gusting 75 kmph from today afternoon for subsequent 18 hours while squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is also very likely over central Bay of Bengal around the depression centre, it said.

It will gradually increase becoming 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal from today forenoon, it said.

The condition of the sea will be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh Coasts during next 24 hours.

Fishermen were advised not to venture into northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha, West Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh Coasts during next 24 hours.
