Bhubaneswar: The local meteorological department warned of heavy rainfall for three days from tomorrow under the influence of a cyclonic circulation formed over central Bay of Bengal which is likely to be concentrated into a deep depression.
“Moderate to severe thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Odisha. Heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of coastal Odisha on September 19,” said the bulletion.
On September 20, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over districts of south Odisha and coastal regions. Meanwhile, extremely heavy rainfall might occur over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Koraput, it warned.
On September 21, extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over isolated places of Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi, it predicted.
“A cyclonic circulation over central Bay of Bengal extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level is likely to give rise to a low pressure. This low pressure will then concentrate into a depression and move towards north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts during the subsequent 48 hours,” it added.
Fishermen who are in deep sea are advised to return to coast by tonight and are advised not to venture in to the sea during the period.
