Debrigarh tiger death: Skeleton sent to Dehradun WII for testing

Bhubaneswar: The skeletons of the tiger whose carcass was found buried in Debrigarh sanctuary of Bargarh has been sent to Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII) for examination. Preliminary investigation says it was a leopard, Forest and Environment Minister Bijayashreee Routray said.

The carcass was suspected to be 2-3 weeks old.

The reason of its death can only be ascertained after report came in.

Poachers killed the big cat and took its teeth and nails and buried its body in the jungle.

After getting information, a forest officials’ team visited the spot and recovered the carcass and started investigation. It might be mentioned that some days before the RBT was shifted here for the safety of the forest.  It is suspected that as jungle mafia have killed the tiger as they were afraid of cutting trees in the forest in the presence of the big cat.

Bargarh DFO Sudeep Kumar Nayak said that further investigation is on and very soon the culprits would be arrested.
