Cuttack: Tension prevailed at Ostamula Square under Mahanga police station in Cuttack district today after locals and family members of a minor girl, who was suffering from cancer, died allegedly owning to medical negligence staged a road blockade demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for the deceased’s family.
Due to the road blockade road communication between Cuttack-Kuanpala was affected for hours.
The deceased’s father Karunakar Jena blamed local MLA and Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena for not ensuring proper treatment of the poor girl despite repeated requests.
According to sources, the girl was undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here since last few days. However, doctors informed her family members to take her back home on Friday.
Meanwhile, her condition deteriorated on Saturday following which family members took her to Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre, Cuttack in an ambulance. However, she died while being treated at the OPD.
And when the body reached home, alleging negligence in her treatment and demanding compensation, irate locals and the girl’s family members staged a road blockade by burning tyres and placing her body on the road.
Meanwhile, due to the intervention of Mahanga police and tehsildar the road blockade was withdrawn.
