Bhubaneswar: Expelled BJD leader Damodar Rout on Saturday launched his own political party ‘Biju Samata Kranti Dal’ to counter the ruling party BJD ahead of the 2019 elections.
Among others, former MP and Samata Kranti Dal founder Braja Kishore Tripathy and Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) chief and ex-BJD leader Jagneswar Babu were present on the occasion.
His decision did not come as a surprise as he had said earlier said that a party will be formed to take on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and made it clear that he will not join BJP or Congress.
Earlier, Rout said the name of the party will be declared by the end of October and it will be named after legendary leader Biju Patnaik.
Currently, Rout remains as an independent MLA after being expelled from the BJD by party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik September 12 over ‘anti-party activities’.
He had earlier also said that former Biju Patnaik loyalists, who were shown the door by Naveen Patnaik, could come together to form an alternate political force to take on BJD.
