Cyclone Fani: State seeks two helicopters for relief, rescue operation

Bhubaneswar: As the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ is likely to make landfall in Odisha between Gopalpur and Chandbali on May 3, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi today urged the Centre to provide two helicopters for relief and rescue operations.

He urged the Cabinet Secretary to provide two helicopters to be engaged in relief and rescue operation. The people from low lying areas will be evacuated from May 2. All arrangements have been made to serve cooked food to the people at all cyclone centres, said Padhi.

“We have also sought additional NDRF teams from the Centre for relief and rescue operation. The number of people to be evacuated will be cleared tomorrow,” added Padhi.

Padhi today held a discussion about the State’s preparedness with Cabinet Secretary via videoconferencing. DGP Dr RP Sharma, Fire Services DG BK Sharma and all line department Secretaries attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued Orange warning for six districts for May 2 and Red alert for 17 districts for May 3 and 4 as the cyclone ‘Fani’ which has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm, is likely to make landfall in Odisha between Gopalpur and Chandbali.
