Cyclone Fani: State Govt’s preliminary report pegs looses at Rs 12,000 crore

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi today informed that a preliminary memorandum on damage assessment of Rs 12,000 crore has been submitted to the inter-ministerial team of the Central Government.

Sethi said the Rs 12,000 damage assessment report was submitted to the Central team on basis of preliminary estimates. The Central team visited the State assess the extent the damage caused by Cyclone Fani on May 3 in 14 districts in the State.

“Full memorandum will be submitted by the end of this month,” said Sethi after attending a meeting with the inter-ministerial team members at the State Secretariat here.

Meanwhile, inter-ministerial team leader and Ministry of Home Affairs Additional Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj lauded the State Government for expediting its efforts for the restoration work.

“The way and momentum the State Government has expedited its efforts for the restoration works is highly praiseworthy. Wherever we visited, we were apprised that the affected people have received immediate relief,” said Bharadwaj.
