Bhubaneswar: Over 25,425 people have been evacuated to cyclone relief shelters in 11 districts by 10.30 am in the wake of the cyclone Fani, according to the initial reports gathered by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office.
Around 8 lakh people w ill be relocated by Thursday evening. Over 3,001 shelter homes have been created in different districts to accommodate the people.
As per the IMD bulletin, the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ over Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved further north-northeastwards with a speed of about 15 kmph in last six hours and lay centred about 420 km south-southwest of Puri, 210 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 610 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal).
It is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, around Puri during May 3 afternoon with maximum sustained wind speed of 170-180 kmph gusting to 200 kmph.
The forecast given by IMD indicates that Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurdha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore districts of Odisha are likely to be severely affected.
