In the lockdown period Odisha culinary Forum have shared quite a bit of recipes which can be curated at home with ease. Today will be presenting a simple dish which can be done with fewer amounts of ingredients, especially when one craves for that binge after an activity on the computer or that tensed web series. I term it as Instant Mug Mac & Cheese.
Macaroni and cheese, is a classic comfort food dish, when it is cooked from scratch. The smell of Macaroni when out of the vacuum sealed box is divine and so also the cheese when grated from a fresh block. But what do we do when have leftovers ingredients just for one servings. This can be done with help of microwave, and a mug. This perfected dish is for a desired single serving or to quench your binge or craving.
Ingredients: 1/3 Cup of pasta (use elbow pasta – macaroni for the classic Mac & Cheese look), 1/2 Cup of Water, 1/2 Cup of Shredded Cheese, 1/2 Teaspoon of Butter , 1/4 Cup of Milk
Cook the Pasta: Pour 1/3 cup pasta into the mug. Cover with the 1/2 cup of water. Place in the microwave and heat for one minute on high. Remove the mug from the microwave and stir. Heat for another minute on high then stir. It has to be repeated four times – heated and stirred four times. Total cooking time of pasta inside the microwave has to be four minutes. When you’re done, you will notice that there may some water left behind, leave the water if one wants it little watery pasta or drain it out if you love your pasta dry. Stirring in these intervals allows for the water to boil and steam without overflowing down the sides of your mug. If you are still worried then place your pasta and water in a larger mug or even a bowl.
Add the Dairy: Once the pasta has been cooked, add your cheese, butter and milk to your mug. Give the pasta a quick stir with all of the dairy products to evenly incorporate into the pasta. This will allow for a uniform melting and mixing of macaroni and cheese.
Place the mug in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds. Remove from the microwave and give your macaroni and cheese a final stir to make sure that the pasta is coated in cheesy creamy goodness.
You’re done and Bon appétit.
