Coronavirus scare in Odisha: Kandhamal youth tested negative, 14 others under surveillance

Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: Samples of a youth from Kandhamal district who returned from China on January 11 has been tested negative for deadly coronavirus, informed Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET), CBK Mohanty. “So far seven samples from Odisha have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for coronavirus and six of the samples have been tested negative,” said Mohanty. According to the World Health Organisation, the signs of infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing. Mohanty also said that 14 others are currently under surveillance for the deadly virus. “As many as 84 beds have been reserved for patients infected with the deadly virus and the number of beds is likely to further increase to 150,” added Mohanty. Officials said that so far 13 people recently returning from China have been identified while another person has recently returned to Odisha from Thailand.
