Bhubaneswar: The opposition Congress party workers today sold onions at Rs 40 per kilogram at Master Canteen Square here to protest against the unprecedented increase in prices of onions.
However, a person is allowed to take 250 grams of onion by paying Rs 10.
Alleging that the rising price of vegetables, especially onion has affected the household budget in a big way across the State, the protestors demanded immediate proactive measures to check the rising price of the essential commodity.
Prices of onions in the past two days have shot up to Rs 100 per kilogram in several parts of the State including State capital Bhubaneswar.
“Under the BJP regime common people are the worst sufferers. The Central Government is neither willing to listen to the pleas of the common people nor taking measures to check the unprecedented increase in prices of onions. So we decided to buy onions and sell them at Rs 40 per kg to the people,” said one of the protestors.
