Bhubaneswar: The Mahila Congress members today clashed with police as the former tried to barge into the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here demanding resignation of the latter over rise in the incidents of crime against women in the State.
Hundreds of members of Mahila Congress, the women wing of the Congress, led by its president Sumitra Jena protested the State Government’s failure in ensuring safety for women.
Shouting anti-Government slogans and holding black balloons, the protestors reached near the Naveen Niwas in a bid to barge into the residence. When police personnel prevented them from entering the CM’s residence a scuffle ensued between the agitating women and police.
The protestors also threw tomatoes and eggs at the CM’s residence. To bring the situation under control, police took nearly 50 protestors into preventive custody.
