Bhubaneswar, Sep 30: The Congress today protested in the state assembly against suspension of Question Hour during the ongoing monsoon session.

“We are not agreed to this decision. Our basic democratic rights have been undermined”, said Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra at the outset of today’s assembly sitting.

Usually, the assembly sitting is used to begin with the hour-long Question Hour during which verbal questions are discussed. But the Question Hour business has been dropped this time during the ongoing monsoon session on the pretext of Covid 19 pandemic.

The Question Hour had also been suspended during the recent session of the two houses of the Parliament and the precedent is being followed in the assembly too, said BJD legislator Amar Prasad Satpathy.

Today, the assembly sitting began without the Question Hour business. During the first hour, the MLAs were asked By Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro to raise the state or national issue instead of questions relating to their respective constituencies and speak for 7 to 8 minutes.
