Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of Congress today donated Rs 20 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Office as a contribution for upgradation of Rourkela IGH to a super speciality hospital.
A delegation of the party leaders led by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik gave the cheque of Rs 20.20 lakh at the PMO.
Earlier in July, the Congress legislature party (CLP) on Monday sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to donate a cheque for Rs 20 lakh, raised by the Congress from across the country in support of the proposed healthcare project.
Earlier in June this year, Congress president Rahul Gandhi slammed Modi for allegedly reneging on his promise of facilitating construction of a super specialty hospital in Rourkela and announced to raise funds after Muktikanta Biswal walked from Rourkela to Delhi to remind Modi of his promise.
Notably, Modi, during his visit to Rourkela on April 1, 2015, had announced that the Centre would upgrade Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into a super specialty hospital and medical college.
