Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government today asked all district Collectors to take preventive measures in view of the Bharat bandh call by various Central trade unions.
Major trade unions and other associations have called for a bandh on Wednesday to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), economic slowdown, unemployment, rising unemployment, privatisation of public sector undertakings (PSUs) and the alleged anti-labour attitude of the Centre may hit life in the state.
As many as eight trade unions in Odisha, including the CITU, the AITUC, INTUC and AICCTU, AIUTUC and several other labour organisations have extended their support to the strike. Odisha unit of the Congress announced its support to the proposed bandh.
Special Secretray to Home Department Santosh Bala in a letter to all collectors has stated it is apprehended that the agitators may stop vehicular traffic, rail traffic and close down business establishments and picket before Government institutions, banks and educational institutions.
“You are, therefore requested to take all preventive measures to maintain law and order and to ensure maintenance of essential services in the district. You are also requested to instruct the officers and staff of the district to attend office by 9.30 am on that day positively,” said Bala.
