Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday congratulated Odisha-born Michael Debabrata Patra over his appointment as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor.
The Union Government on Tuesday appointed Patra as the new RBI Deputy Governor for a period of three years.
“Congratulate Odisha born Michael Debabrata Patra on being appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Best wishes for the new responsibility,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
Patra, who was earlier an RBI Executive Director, will replace Viral Acharya who left the office on July 23 last year six months ahead of his scheduled exit.
Patra is a Phd in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai.
A fellow of the Harvard University where he undertook post doctoral research in the area of financial stability, he has served in various capacities in the RBI which he joined in 1985.
Shaktikanta Das of Odisha is now serving as the RBI Governor. He is a retired 1980-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre.
