Cigarettes worth Rs 12 lakh seized at Bhubaneswar airport, 2 detained

Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized 80,000 foreign cigarettes worth Rs 12 lakh from two passengers at Biju Patnaik International Airport here and detained two persons in this connection.

Acting on a tipoff, the DRI officials intercepted two Kolkata-based businessmen shortly after they landed at the airport in a flight from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

During search, 400 cigarette packets totalling 80,000 in number were found in the baggage. It did not contain prescribed statutory and pictorial warning printed on them.
