Bhubaneswar: Former MP Baijayant Panda today appeared before the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in New Delhi for allegedly hovering of a helicopter over ‘eco-sensitive zone’ of Chilika lagoon on September 15.
The DGCA had issued a notice to Panda after allegations were levelled on his chopper movement on September 15 over Chilika.
Panda was accused of flying of a chopper at a “dangerous level” on September 15 over Chilika lake.
Last week, Puri police had seized the helicopter and hanger of Panda at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar for allegedly flying over an “eco-sensitive zone” in Chilika Lake around 1.30 pm on Saturday.
The seizure was made on the basis of a complaint lodged by Chilika Development Authority (CDA) Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Binod Acharya.
Panda, who quit the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in May following his suspension for “anti-party activities”, accused the State Government of trying to “handicap his movement” on Twitter.
