Child marriage attempt foiled in Odisha; girl claims she isn’t minor

Khordha, Oct 29: An alleged child marriage bid at a temple in Pallahat was foiled by the officials of Childline and Khordha Model police on Wednesday. However, both the bride and groom claimed that the girl is more than 18 years-old.

According to reports, the girl belongs to Dimiripatna village under Nayagarh and the youth hails from Lokeswarpur village in Khordha district.

They had met through Facebook and decided to get married at Lokeswar temple at Pallahat.

On getting information about the marriage, the girl’s family informed the Chidline officials on their helpline number. The officials along with District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and police rushed to the Lokeswar temple and stopped the marriage.
