Bhubaneswar: Two days after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced schedule for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar today held an all-party meeting here and laid emphasis on strict observance of model code of conduct (MCI).
Representatives of several political parties, including three major parties BJD, Congress and BJP attended the meeting.
After the meeting, Kumar said a strict vigil will be kept on expenditure limit by candidates.
“No expenditure limit has been fixed for party. However, the ECI has fixed candidate’s expenditure limit. While Rs 28 lakh expenditure limit has been for Assembly candidates, Rs 70 lakh has been fixed for candidates contesting Lok Sabha seats,” said Kumar.
Almost all the political party leaders assured the CEO to comply with the guidelines of the ECI for a smooth, free and fair election in the State starting April 11.
Polling will be held in four phases in the State on April 11, 18, 23 and 29.
