Angul: Carcass of tusker suspected to have been killed in an electric shock was recovered near Hemamura village of Sapaghara panchayat from Handapa Range in Angul district today.
Some locals spotted the carcass of the jumbo lying on a farmland and informed the forest department official.
Villagers alleged that poachers planted 11 kv electric wire to protect their crops from wild boars. The elephant came in contact with the high tension wire and got electrocuted. He died on the spot.
On being informed, forest officials rushed the spot and seized body for post-mortem.
Notably, as many as seven elephants were electrocuted after coming in contact with sagging live wire at Kamalanga village under Sadar Forest Range in Dhenkanal district on October 26. The incident had sparked State-wide hue and cry. The National Green Tribunal is now investigating the matter.
