Bhubaneswar: The leopard captured by forest department officials safely near airport here late on Tuesday night was released in Chandaka forests, informed City DFO Ashok Mishra.
The leopard which was spotted moving near the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Sunday night was captured by Forest officials on Tuesday night, was initially shifted to Nandankanan zoo late.
The forest department officials along with CISF team laid traps with chickens as baits to capture the wildcat and it entered the cage near the Cargo gate of the airport and caged.
A team of forest department and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) led by City DFO Ashok Mishra on Tuesday intensified operation to trap the leopard, captured on the CCTV camera of a house near the airport, in Palashpalli.
The area where the wildcat was spotted is just a kilometre away from the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
In the CCTV footages, the wildcat was seen jumping over the wall of the house and entering the building, located near the airport on Sunday night.
