Bhubaneswar: Normal life in Burla town has been disrupted due to a 12-hour bandh being observed by the Burla Sachetana Nagarika Committee with a demand of early reinstatement of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Director Ashwini Pujahari, who has been sent on a leave for a free and fair inquiry into an allegation lodged against him.
It may be mentioned that Pujahari had allegedly used edible salt on a patient during a surgery and a video of this went viral on social media. Junior doctors of the premier hospital opposed it.
Due to the bandh, schools, colleges and business establishments have remained closed due to the bandh. Similarly, vehicular movement has been severely disrupted as agitators have blocked the road.
Committee members have opposed the Government of sending Pujahari on a leave. They have demanded that the Director be reinstated soon.
Notably, the Health and Family Welfare Department issued a show-cause notice to Pujahari asking him to submit a reply within three days and sent him on a leave. The department served the show-cause after the Junior Doctors’ Association resorted to a cease-work stir demanding action against the Director.
