Chandigarh, April 20 : In a recent operation near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar district, the Border Security Force (BSF) announced the seizure of a China-made drone along with a 500-gram packet of heroin.
Acting on intelligence, BSF troops conducted an extensive search operation in the suspected area, leading to the successful recovery of the drone and the packet of heroin around 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The packet, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, was found alongside the drone, which had a small torch attached to it.
The recovery occurred in fields adjacent to Nestha village, approximately 300 km from Chandigarh. Identified as a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic, the drone was confiscated by the BSF.
According to the BSF Punjab Frontier, this operation represents another instance of the BSF thwarting attempts at narcotics smuggling through drones from across the border. In 2023, the BSF reported detecting and shooting down 107 drones, seizing 442.395 kg of heroin.
In addition to confiscating 23 weapons and 505 rounds of ammunition, the BSF reported the elimination of three Pakistan intruders and the apprehension of 23 Pakistan nationals, including two smugglers, 14 Bangladeshi nationals, and 95 Indian suspects, including 35 smugglers, in various incidents.
Last year, troopers from the BSF Punjab Frontier handed over 12 Pakistani nationals, who had inadvertently crossed the International Border, to Pakistan Rangers.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including adverse weather conditions and a surge in smuggling activities, BSF personnel continue to guard the borders with unwavering dedication round the clock.
