Bhubaneswar: Culling of hens and broilers would begin at different places under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district today in view of an outbreak of avian influenza was established in the area on Thursday.
Samples collected from different poultry farms and the dead crows tested positive for the H5N1 virus and, following this, the Government has declared four villages as bird flu-affected.
According to reports, culling drive would be carried out in the affected areas of Maluda, Sanasahi, and Patharaganja today. People of the area have been asked not to sell or consume eggs and chicken for ten days. Similarly, egg consumption has been banned in schools and Anganwadi centres.
According to information, 40 persons with 10 Quick Reaction Teams have been deployed for culling of birds in affected areas.
Reports said poultry farm owners have started opposing culling birds without adequate compensation.
