Bhubaneswar, July 4: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today prohibited rallies and demonstrations in Bhubaneswar in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. BMC officials said that if any instances of rallies and demonstrations come to the notice of the civic body, concerned police stations will be informed for taking appropriate and immediate actions. “The IICs are also instructed to stop such demonstration/rally/gathering and take appropriate legal action on their own motion without waiting for intimation/complaints from BMC or any other sources whenever they receive information about such demonstration/Rally/Gathering. The information source for such demonstration can be intelligence/media/public /Govt authority/or any other sources,” read an official notification of the BMC. Earlier the state government has fixed the number of participants in large gathering and congregation to seven to maintain social distancing. “ However in reality it is observed that in the demonstrations held, large number of people have participated in each of them and in most cases blatant violations of social distancing norms was observed,” said an official.
