BMC imposes penalty of Rs 1 lakh on polythene manufacturing unit

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: A team of polythene central squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal (BMC) today conducted raid on a polythene manufacturing unit in Patrapada area and seized one trip of below 50 micron polythene and other manufacturing materials. The civic body has also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the manufacturing unit. “Although the unit has trade licence to produce above 50 micron polythene but it has been producing both below and above 50 micron polythene,” said a BMC official. The action was initiated on instruction of Additional commissioner, Abani Kumar Pattanaik who is in charge enforcement activities of BMC. Zonal Deputy Commissioner, South West Zone lead the team for related queries in the unit with staffs of Swachh Bhubaneswar Cell of BMC, engineers from State Pollution Control Board and police personnel.
