Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate police today foiled an attempt by BJP Mahila Morcha to gherao Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence in protest against the derogatory remarks of Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy.
The BJP Mahila Morcha members reached near Air Port Square in small groups in a bid to gherao the CM’s residence. However, police prevented them entering the CM’s home and a scuffle ensued between the police personnel and protesters.
Holding party flags and banner, the Mahila Morcha took out a rally from the party office and marched towards the residence of CM to seek his reply over the derogatory remarks of Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy against woman.
Later, the cops detained around 15 members of the BJP women’s wing from the spot.
Maharathy is in the eye of storm after a video went viral purportedly showing him making derogatory remarks against the women since last week.
The video which has since gone viral quoted the BJD veteran as saying that 30,000 women have 60,000 husbands each having two husbands.
Earlier, the Morcha activists also staged an agitation in front of Maharathy’s residence in Bhubaneswar. They also faced off with police while attempting to barge into his residence.
