Bhubaneswar: Describing the farmers as the soul of Indian economy, Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik today said that the BJP has forgotten its promise given in its manifesto at the time of elections on paddy MSP.
While addressing party’s Krushak Adhikar Samabesh in Delhi, Patnaik said they were forced to come to Delhi after the Centre ignored their request to increase the MSP of paddy.
“It is their duty to implement Swaminathan Commission report,” said Patnaik.
The Chief Minister also raised the financial autonomy status issue and said, “If the Centre had given us financial autonomy, we wouldn’t have come here. We are fighting for the rights of farmers and will continue to do so.”
The BJD organised a mega farmers convention in New Delhi demanding hike on paddy MSP and implementation of Swaminathan Commission report.
