Bhubaneswar: A team of State unit of BJP leaders today met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) here demanding special security arrangements at 158 sensitive polling booths in Patkuara for the ensuing Assembly elections scheduled on July 20.
Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm in 309 polling stations. Counting of votes would be done on July 24.
The delegation was led by party spokesperson Lekhashree Samantsinghar.
“We complained the CEO that BJD MLAs, Ministers and leaders from other constituencies are freely moving in Patkura and trying to pressurise polling personnel in the booths and influencing voters by distributing liquor and money,” said Samantsinghar.
No arrangements have been made yet for videography or CCTV coverage of the sensitive and hypersensitive booths, added the leader.
Voting for the Patkura assembly bypoll, where Bijoy Mohapatra is contesting as BJP’s candidate, will be held on July 20. Elections were countermanded when the BJD’s candidate, Bed Prakash Agarwalla, died less than ten days before polling. It was postponed again after a cyclone hit Odisha in early May 3. BJD has fielded late Bed Prakash Agarwalla’s wife Sabitri Agrawalla as its candidate.
