Bhubaneswar: Normal life has been hit in Jajpur district due to a 12-hour bandh being observed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in protest against alleged derailing of investigation process in the incident of death of Jajpur district’s Dharmasala block Haridashpur gram panchayat Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Smitarani Biswal.
Due to the bandh, shops and bazaars have remained closed and vehicular movement disrupted since 6 am. Saffron party activists have blocked roads at different places. Passengers have stranded at different bus stops.
The BJP has alleged that the Superintended of Police has taken a calculative move to protect main accused Rupesh Bhadra, husband of Sarpanch Madhusmita Bhadra. The party has also trained guns at the SP for his alleged attempt for “character assassination” of Smitarani following her death. The SP’s statement at the start of the investigation that Rupesh had a relationship with Smitarani is intended at protecting Rupesh at the cost of Smitarani’s character, alleged the BJP.
The party has demanded that the Government order for a CBI inquiry into the sensitive incident. Earlier, the party had met the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), State Commission for Women (SCW) and the Director General of Police (DGP) seeking action against the SP and a proper investigation into the incident.
