Bhubaneswar: Members of Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), the women wing of the ruling BJD, today staged demonstration outside the regional office of IOCL here protesting irregularities in the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).
The fresh attack on the Centre came after the ruling BJD hit the streets against the Centre over skyrocketing fuel prices on October 1.
The protestors led by BMJD president Pramila Mallik staged the demonstration holding placards and carrying gas cylinders on head.
The protestors alleged that though the BJP Government at the Centre claims that over 30.48 lakh connections were given in Odisha under PMUY since the scheme was launched in May 2016 till July this year, a mere 30 per cent people have refilled their cylinders after the first use.
If only 30 per cent of the beneficiaries are refilling their cylinders, why Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is silent about the remaining cylinders, said Mallik while addressing the gathering of women protestors.
The BJD leader alleged that of the total 30.48 lakh connections provided under the PMUY in the State, only 8.18 lakh beneficiaries took their second refill in 2016-17 while the number reduced to 6.45 lakh in the 2017-18 financial year.
“There are massive irregularities in implementation of the scheme. The incompetency of the Centre and particularly the inefficiency of Union Oil Minister are responsible for the scam in implementation of PMUY,” said the BJD leader.
