BJD woman leader who had attempted suicide before SP office in Berhampur dies

Berhampur: BJD woman leader Meenakshi Mishra who had attempted self-immolation in front of the SP office here on February 12 died today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. Mishra was rescued in a critical condition after she attempted to end her by self-immolation and immediately rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Later, she was shifted to SCB Mediacl College and Hospital in Cuttack. She was further shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar as her health condition deteriorated. Sources said Mishra’s son Raja was recently arrested by police for his alleged involvement in an altercation over parking issue. Protesting his son’s arrest, the BJD leader had attempted suicide. “In the CCTV footage, it is clearly shown that my son was brutally thrashed by a group of people with a cricket bat in broad daylight on January 28. On what grounds, the police arrested my son, who is completely innocent,” she had said before trying to end her life.
