Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader Raghunath Mohanty today resigned as chairman, Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation citing personal problems.
He submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here.
Now, speculation is rife that the BJD veteran may join BJP ahead of the elections. He has served as a Minister in several departments. He was also the BJD vice-president.
The five-time MLA from Basta in Balasore district was removed from the post in March 2013 after he was arrested in a dowry torture case slapped by his daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhury. Naveen Patnaik also denied him a party ticket in 2014.
However, in March last year, Patnaik appointed Mohanty as party’s vice-president.
