Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal, which has seven members in the Rajya Sabha, will support the Citizen (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in the Upper House today.
The CAB will be presented in the Rajya Sabha for discussion and passing today by Home Minister Amit Shah. The bill has provision of giving citizenship right to non-Muslims after their six years’ stay in the country, according to reports.
“The Citizen (Amendment) Bill will protect the interest of people of Minorities communities. It will not cause any damage to Muslims. Our party will support the bill for passing in the Rajya Sabha,” said MP Prasanna Acharya.
Notably, the CAB was passed in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The Congress and other opposition parties are opposing the Bill. The Bill will be passed in the Upper House If the former BJP ally Shiv Sena provides support, said reports.
