Bhubaneswar: Alleging that Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar is not allowing the State Government to disburse financial assistance under the KALIA scheme to farmers, a BJD team led by Puri MP Pinaki Misra today met the Chief Election Commission of India (CEC) seeking his intervention.
“The Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha is acting under pressure. He is not granting permission for disbursal of cash benefits under KALIA Scheme even though the scheme was announced before the poll notification,” Misra told reporters after submitting memorandum to the CEC.
Though the State Government had fixed April 1 as the date of disbursement of money in the second phase, but it has been stopped by the CEO citing poll code violation.
The ruling BJD alleged that the CEO is not allowing the State Government to disburse financial assistance under the pressure of BJP.
Earlier, the CEO had said that an ongoing programme could not be stopped or discontinued when the model code of conduct was in force.
The State Government had launched the KALIA scheme to provide support and assistance to farmers last year. In the past few months, nearly 40 lakh farmers have been benefited by it.
