Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today clarified that BJD is not a part of the Mahagathabandhan, the grand alliance of opposition parties, proposed to counter the BJP in the ensuing elections.
“As far as the Mahagathbandhan is concerned, BJD is not a part of it. We will continue with our policy of equidistance from the BJP and Congress,” said Patnaik to queries whether he will join the grand alliance ahead of 2019 polls.
The Chief Minister also ruled out speculations of another Cabinet reshuffle ahead of the forthcoming general and Assembly polls. Speculations of another Cabinet rejig was rife after Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy resigned from the Council of Minister recently over his controversial statement hailing the Pipili gang-rape and murder verdict.
Last month Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao met Naveen Patnaik and held discussion on a national coalition of regional parties to take on the BJP and Congress.
KCR has been making efforts to form a federal front with non-BJP and non-Congress parties since March this year.
