Jharsuguda, May 27: In a bizarre incident, a gang of streetlight lifters has been arrested by Lakhanpur police station in the district. Police have seized as many as 28 stolen streetlights worth lakhs from the accused. The accused have been identified as Jiten Chouder (28), Asish Karali (22) and Gangadhar Bhue (21). Police said that the gang took away around 30 streetlights installed on the three kilometre stretch between Khaliapali and Keruabahal. “The streetlights were installed by MCL and the accused stole the lights in phase wise manner. They used to climb the electric pole during day time to avoid any suspicion and used to identify them as electricians engaged for maintenance of the streetlights,” said a police official. Police said that accused managed to dispose of two lights while all other lights have been recovered. “ We received a formal complaint of theft of streetlights on May 24 and subsequently arrested the trio,” added the police official.
