Bhubaneswar: The Biju Krushak Janata Dal (BKJD) will hold a massive protest meeting in front of the Parliament in New Delhi on January 8 to press for increasing minimum support price of paddy to Rs 2,930 as per the unanimous resolution passed by Odisha Assembly and execution of all other promises made by the BJP in its 2014 manifesto.
“BJD MPs, MLAS, all ZP presidents, BKJD and BJD district presidents and famer representatives from across the State will board a special train here on January 6 to go to New Delhi. A massive dharna will be staged in front of the Parliament,” said BKJD general secretary Pratap Jena in the presence of president Prasanna Acharya, Sanjay Dasburma, Debi Prasad Mishra and others.
Acharya demanded that the Union Government should adopt a national policy to help out farmers at the earliest. “Farmers are not getting right a price for paddy as the Narendra Modi Government is yet to implement the Swaminathan Committee recommendations. Farmers’ problems have been a national issue now. Hence, the BJD wants a national police by adopted to help out farmers,” said Acharya.
