Bhubaneswar, April 11: The Unit-1 vegetable traders’ association has warned to theatens strike in protest against opening of makeshift plastic shops along the road connecting the market.
The association alleged that the makeshift shops have encroached the road following which large vegetable loaded trucks are unable to enter the market. It has urged the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation for eviction of the illegal shops within two days, otherwise it will go on strike.
Every day hundreds of trucks reach the market with vegetables through the lone road through SBI branch and Capital Police Station.
Some influential people have encroached the road by opening makeshift plastic shops along the road following which large vegetable loaded trucks are facing difficulty to enter the veggie market.
Association’s president Kabiraj Swain said, “Some influential people have encroached the road by opening makeshift plastic shops along the road when there are several big plastic shops in the market itself. We face difficulty in entering vegetable trucks to the market. In the earlier meeting, the BMC had assured not to allow any makeshift vendors to sell items along the road close to the SBI. If the BMC does not evict the illegal shops within two days, we will stage protest from Saturday.
The association also warned to boycott the general elections if its demands are not fulfilled.
