Bhubaneswar at peak of Covid-19 infection: BMC Commissioner

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: The state capital is one among the best protected capital cities in the country in terms of prevalence of antibody to Covid-19, said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary today.

Chaudhary said that the sero surveillance conducted last month in Bhubaneswar showed the antibody prevalence is at 1.24% while antibody prevalence in other major cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad ranges in between 20-50%.  

“We are at the peak if the infection and if we manage the situation well, the graph will come down like other cities.  We have to remain very cautious for another month to combat the virus,” he said.

Chaudhary while analysing the Covid-19 situation in BMC area said that out of 1, 01,542 testing done so far, 6720 cases were found Covid positive while 4061 have recovered and discharged. He also said that 2618 persons are active as of now and 675 persons are in home isolation.

“The positivity rate in BMC area is 6.29% and the recovery rate is 61.80%. Every day 8 to 9 camps are being conducted testing,” added the commissioner.
