Bhubaneswar: BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab today criticised yesterday’s incident involving CBI in West Bengal and said it is something which demonstrates and questions the institutional integrity of CBI.
“The manner in which CBI is functioning during the last two-three months does not show professionalism. This is the reason as to why CBI is facing such criticism today,” said Mahtab in the Lok Sabha.
Notably, CBI last week sent notices to two former BJD Ministers Arun Sahoo and Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, both sitting MLAs, in connection with Chit fund probe just ahead of the general and Assembly elections due in May.
On the other hand, BJD in a statement said that the sudden action of the central investigating agency in Odisha just before panchayat elections in 2017 and now before general elections smacks of “unprofessional conduct and coloured with political motives”.
“Institutional integrity has to be restored after all this infighting. We are a mature democracy and professionalism should be maintained in these issues. Even in Odisha sudden action of CBI just before panchayat elections in the past and now before general elections smacks of unprofessional conduct and coloured with political motives,” added the statement.
