Bhubaneswar: Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati termed today’s Bharat bandh being observed by his party against the fuel price hike a success as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik did not at the State Assembly on time.
“The Bharat Bandh call given by the Congress against the fuel price hike is successful in Odisha as Chief Minister arrived at the State Assembly by four minutes two seconds late despite the scheduled time at 10.30 am,” said Bahinipati.
The Assembly was adjourned till Tuesday after Congress members rushed to the Well of the House shouting slogans against the Central Government over the fuel price issue as soon as the House assembled for the Question Hour at 10.30 am. Unable to the run the House, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat cancelled the proceedings till tomorrow.
Protestors led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik staged dharna in front of the main gate of the State Assembly and Secretariat. He accused the Central Government of being a total failure in checking fuel prices.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Narasingha Mishra also led a protest march at Master Canteen Square.
