Bhubaneswar: Normal life in major cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jeypore has been hit due to the Bharat Bandh being observed by the Congress since 6 am this morning.
Congress activists are picketing at different places in the capital city. Auto-rickshaws, taxis and buses have remained off the road. Hundreds of trucks have stranded on roadsides. Master Canteen Square, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Raj Mahal Square and CRP Square have now worn deserted looks. Denizens have faced difficulties in buying ration and vegetables as shops have remained closed.
In Cuttack, Congress and Communist activists have sat on the road at the Madhupatna Square. As a result, hundreds of trucks and buses have stranded on the roadsides on National Highway 16.
Similarly, Congress activists have blocked roads in Jeypore by burning tyres. Buses, auto-rickshaws have remained off the road.
As many as 225 platoons of police force have been deployed across the State to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the bandh, which would be held till 3 pm.
