Bhubaneswar: The number of deaths in the Bhadrak hooch tragedy rose to four with death of another person while undergoing treatment in the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital this morning. The fourth deceased was identified as Shankarshan Parida.
Earlier, three persons were killed in the incident. They were Ramchandra Padhihari, Sadhu Charan Nayak and Sarbeswar Das, all residents of Doulatpur GP.
According to reports, as many as 27 persons became seriously ill after consuming spurious liquor in Doulatapur gram panchayat under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak district last night. Though all the affected persons were rushed to Bhadrak hospital, doctors declared three of them dead after a few minutes of treatment. Two of injured have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their conditions deteriorated and the rest 21 are undergoing treatment at the Bhadrak DHH.
Tension ran high in the area as locals blocked the Bhadrak-Chandabali road at Pirahaat. Due to road blockade, vehicular movement has been disrupted.
Meanwhile, the Bhadrak district Collector has ordered a probe into the incident.
