Barchana IIC detained along with his family for forcefully entering Puri Jagannath temple despite ban on devotees for Covid-19

Puri, April 19: IIC of Barchana in Jajpur district has been detained along with three of his family members after they barged into the Jagannath temple despite ban on devotees in view of Covid-19. As per reports the IIC, Deepak Jena along with his three family members, all women reached the temple around 7 pm in a vehicle. They reached Southern gate of the temple and were resisted by an on-duty havildar. Jena was in plan clothes. However, all of them forcefully entered the temple despite resistance by the havildar. The shrine became off limits to devotees from March 20 in wake of Covid-19 outbreak. Sources said that Jena and his family spent arounf half an hour in the temple and had also a darshan of the deities. The on-duty havildar informed the Sinhgadwar police station which in turn intimated the matter to senior district administration officials including the SP and Collector. Subsequently Jena and his family members have been detained. Police said that the on-duty havildar has lodged a formal police complaint in this connection.
