Bhanjanagar: Several organisations, including Joint Action Committee are observing a dawn-to-dusk bandh opposing the decision to relocate the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) unit from town and demanding clearance of pending salary of seven months.
Streets wore a relatively deserted look, with buses off the road and petrol pumps, theaters, shopping malls and educational institutions remaining closed. Even auto rickshaws were largely off the road, hampering mobility of people.
The OSRTC employees are staging road blockades in several places holding placards and shouting slogans.
They urged the Government to take up immediate measures to address their demands. They threatened to intensify agitation if Government fails to resolve the problems.
The strike which began at 6 am will continue till 6 pm. Tight security arrangements have been made in the city to avoid any untoward incidents.
