Puri: Devotees will not be allowed to have darshan of the sibling deities for about four hours between 5 pm and 9 pm as the deities at Puri Jagannath temple here will be given a special session of make-up known as Banaklagi ritual atop of Ratnabedi.
Since the ritual is a secret one and no one except a small group of servitors are allowed to be present inside the sanctum sanctorum to conduct the divine service, the general darshan of devotes are restricted. The special ritual takes about five to six hours.
Today, the ritual will begin at 5 pm after completion of Paitalagi and second bhog mandap.
Traditional colours such as haritala (red), hengula (yellow), sankha (white) and black which is prepared out of ashes after burning a typical fabric by servitors is being used on the Lords’ faces to give them a fresh look. Dattamohapatra servitors perform the ritual.
