Puri: The Bahuda Yatra (return journey) of the Lord Jagannath and His siblings elder brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Goddess Subhadra began as chariots started rolling towards Shree Mandir three hours ahead of schedule.
After the Puri king Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb performed Chhera Panhara ritual (sweeping of chariot floors) on the chariots, devotees started pulling the Taladhawaja chariot of Lord Balabhadra at 1.10 pm.
Bahuda Yatra is the journey of the three chariots of the deities to Shree Jagannath Temple from Shree Gundicha Temple. The three deities were on a nine-day sojourn at Gundicha Temple.
The Chhera Panhara is considered one of the most important rituals performed during the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.
Earlier this morning, the deities – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Lord Sudarshan and Devi Subhadra – were taken to the chariots after holding Pahandi (ceremonial procession) by the temple Daitapati servitors from the Gundicha temple.
